In case you might have missed it, there have been several law enforcement agencies across the country that have publicly come out to relay to the populace in a sense, “you are on your own.” Why all of a sudden are we seeing these types of statements?

What does the data say

Last month I wrote an article on Detroit’s Police Chief James Craig who was recognized by the NRA for publicly encouraging his citizens to arm themselves. My view on law enforcement is pretty simple, they enforce the law. But to do that, it means they have to be present when the law is being broken and therein lies the problem. A mathematically impossible scenario it boils down to percentages and luck in some cases. The percent a police officer will be present when you are the victim of a crime as well as being lucky a police officer was present during said crime. Before folks get all upset about that idea, just do a little number crunching. Take the population of your city, divide it by the number of officers per shift, not the department, the shift. This in no way undermines their mission it should only demonstrate the difficulty they have in doing their jobs and hopefully gain them more appreciation.

Learn what not to do

As we look at the current strife our country is going through many will continue to bury their heads in the sand. Seriously folks, we cannot afford to do that nor can we afford to continue on our current path. Let’s play a little game shall we, let’s take a look at history for a second. I’m an avid believer in studying our history to help shape our future. Most of our answers can be found by looking at leaders from the past. There is much to be learned, even if it is what not to do. Take for instance Saul Alinsky’s book “The Rules for Radicals.” While I have not been able to complete the book, I get extremely upset when I realize how many parallels I see currently. I have learned a lot from just the notion of his teachings.

Call to arms

The main thing I took away from the book is it gives me an inside glimpse into those who would want to attack and destroy our way of life. Clearly I see this as a threat, but not to me, to my children’s future and my hope is more people will educate themselves on the subject. As we move towards our mid-terms I am strongly suggesting that you take the following steps:

  1. Register to vote, surprising how many are not
  2. Educate yourself on the candidates. Don’t just vote a party line because you are too lazy. Learn about their voting record and does it mesh with your beliefs.
  3. Cast your vote, we are in this current predicament because we saw a poor voter turnout.

To quote military genius Sun Tzu, “If ignorant both of your enemy and yourself, you are certain to be in peril.” Take the time to study the likes of Alinsky’s, here is a great video as to why from Dr. Ben Carson.

Logical conclusion

The last point I will make ties into some earlier comments from our law enforcement community. I believe things will get worse before they get better and another great quote is “fortune favors the bold.” so if you haven’t gone about arming yourself and educating yourself on firearms you should. If we do see a decrease in law enforcement due to budgetary reductions then you will be on your own. The funny thing is you have always been on your own, but now you have someone actually telling it to you.

If we continue down this path to it’s logical conclusion no matter how far out it may seem now, those who are armed will at least have the ability to protect themselves from the evil that awaits us all. Is this doom and gloom, maybe, but that is what somebody with their head buried would say. If you are informed on current events especially our economy then you might actually nod your head, reluctantly mind you, but still acknowledge that no matter how remote, it is possible.

In closing another great quote from President Ronald Reagan, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.”

    The mainstream media and the education system have played a big part in the decline as well…keep people uneducated and misinformed and they will be easier to manipulate.
