On last nights radio show talking with guest “JT” from Chairborne Commandos we talked about what a disservice the media is doing regarding “warning” us of impending doom. As if I need the media circus to remind me of the dangers we face in today’s world.

Know danger, no matter what

First off, we are in danger all the time. If you live in the real world and not some pseudo -scientific bubble you will run across dangers from the moment you wake up until the moment you go to bed, you may even find dangers while you are fast asleep. Hell, driving your car on a daily basis is probably the most dangerous thing you can do, no matter the safety features, metal on metal contact is a bad thing. We need to keep things in perspective and be able to recognize danger on the spot. Whether it be in our vehicle the local eatery or our own home. I feel as though folks want to try and classify danger, to make something more dangerous just because they maybe terrorist related. That is a bad move for many reasons.

Staying fearful

The biggest reason is it has given the terrorist organizations a platform; it is putting wind in their sails. They come across more violent, aggressive and savagery. I’m not saying some of the atrocities committed by these groups are not horrible, they are, but that is a given. It’s like reporting how wet water is, it is wet damn it, now move on. The next point is it creates a false sense of security. If the news isn’t reporting on it then everything must be ok. If the news is reporting on it, it is probably old news. Then there is the credibility of their report and what they are not telling us. Keep in mind the job of the media is to keep us afraid, they really aren’t doing us any favors. If they had credible intelligence of a known act of terrorism about to be committed on US soil then by all means. The idea that we should all of a sudden be on high alert because the news reported to me is just silly.

An ounce of prevention

Everyone should be walking around with their head on the proverbial swivel. Yes, you might be somewhat paranoid, but after all the news did say something bad was about to happen so you better be paying attention to your surroundings. It’s like I said earlier, you have a higher chance of being the victim of a violent crime than a terrorist event. Both are very bad, but both are also preventable. I was talking to my kids about the idea of “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” That ounce comes in the form of paying attention to your surroundings, being armed, having a plan and fighting for something. In this case, that something is going home to your family.

Make it a priority

It doesn’t matter if you wear a uniform or not, have traveled overseas or not. I believe evil will find a way so the best way to deal with evil is through the precise application of violence of action. If they pick a fight with you, finish the fight with them. I can promise you that anyone who has such little regard for human life will stop at nothing to do you and your family harm. Don’t make the mistake of thinking you are safe because you live in a nice neighborhood or they wouldn’t dare. Wrong answer, they have already dared and succeeded. Take your safety and health seriously, do something about it on a daily basis.

There’s a great saying, “set the example, don’t be the example” and it applies to pretty much everything in life. If judgement day should come, set the example for others to follow, not just in the fight, but how you prepared for the fight. How you lived your life.
